The Georgia Renewal Shock Index.

Georgia's 2027 filings propose a 20.7% average individual-market increase; proposed increases run from +10% to +29% by carrier, and two carriers, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare, are leaving. Here is what that moment looks like county by county: today's cheapest filed plan, the illustrative dollar impact, and the cost of shopping by premium alone, the part every Georgian can control.

Employers: the small-group filings are on the Georgia Small-Group Filed-Rate Index.

Every county, one table.

"Cheapest plan" is the lowest-premium filed 2026 plan for a 40-year-old, unsubsidized. "+20.7% would add" applies the proposed statewide average to that premium (an illustration, since final 2027 increases vary by plan and county). "Cost of premium-shopping" is the median annual amount the lowest-premium pick loses to the true-cost pick across nine care profiles and three ages (90th percentile in parentheses), the number that's in your control regardless of what regulators approve. Every county name links to its own page and shareable card.

The 2027 questions Georgians are asking.

How much are Georgia health insurance rates going up in 2027?

State filings propose a 20.7% weighted-average increase for Georgia's individual market. Per-carrier proposed increases reported by Georgia's Insurance Department in late August 2026 (via the Georgia Recorder) run from Ambetter's +10% to Alliant's +29% (Kaiser +20%, Anthem (BCBS) and CareSource +21%, AMGP +25%, Oscar +28%), and two carriers, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare, are exiting the state's individual market while Antidote Health enters. These are proposed figures, not final: the Insurance Department decides 2027 rates this fall, and in the 2026 cycle Georgia's approved average (+34.6%) came in above the initial requests.

What does a 20.7% increase mean in dollars?

It depends on the county. The cheapest filed 2026 plan for a 40-year-old ranges from $371 to $574 a month across Georgia's 159 counties, so if the proposed statewide average applied uniformly, the cheapest-plan increase alone would run roughly $77–$119 a month (an illustration: final increases vary by plan and county). The bigger, controllable number is choosing the right plan at all: premium-only shopping already costs a median $556 a year in the average county.

Should I just keep my current plan and absorb the increase?

The data says re-shop: the cheapest plan changes from year to year, carriers reprice differently, and two carriers are leaving Georgia's individual market entirely. Auto-renewing in a +21% year is how a manageable increase becomes an unmanageable one. Compare full-year costs, not just premiums, before renewing anything.

Where do these numbers come from?

Every figure is computed from public government rate filings: premiums are real, unsubsidized 2026 filed rates; the wrong-plan cost columns come from a deterministic whole-year simulation across nine care profiles and three ages per county, with the full methodology published on our plan-choice statistics page. Proposed 2027 figures are from state rate filings and are labeled proposed until final.

What can a small business do about this?

The renewal letter isn't the market. An ICHRA lets a company set a fixed budget and let each employee buy the individual plan that fits, and in a year like this, the difference between picking plans on premium versus full-year math is real money per person. The free audit prices an actual roster against every filed plan; if keeping what you have wins, that's the answer you'll get.

Don't absorb the increase. Compute it.

Insurf, Inc. is not a licensed insurance agency and does not sell insurance; enrollment support is provided by an individually licensed insurance producer, who may be compensated by carrier commissions when an enrollment occurs — that compensation is disclosed on estimates. Proposed 2027 figures are from state rate filings and are not final; the dollar-impact figure is an illustration applying the proposed statewide average uniformly. All other figures are modeled from filed public data under labeled assumptions: informational only, not an offer of coverage, not a recommendation to buy or drop any plan, and not financial, tax, legal, medical, coverage, or insurance advice. Projections are labeled and are not guarantees.
