Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage.

It opens November 1, 2026 everywhere we price. When it closes — and the deadline for coverage that starts January 1 — depends on the state. Here is every verified window, and why a company starting an ICHRA doesn't have to wait for any of them.

The ICHRA exception to the calendar.

Open Enrollment is when individuals shop on their own. A company that starts an ICHRA doesn't wait for it: gaining the allowance triggers a special enrollment period (45 CFR 155.420(d)(14)), so employees get their own shopping window whenever the program begins. The calendar still matters for a clean January 1 start — the 90-day employee notice puts that decision in late September — but the door never fully closes.

Open Enrollment questions, answered.

When does Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage start?

November 1, 2026, in every state we price. End dates vary: HealthCare.gov states run through January 15, 2027, Covered California through January 31, and the state exchanges in between — each state's row above has its verified window.

What's the deadline for coverage starting January 1, 2027?

December 15, 2026 on HealthCare.gov (Florida, Texas, North Carolina); December 31, 2026 on Washington Healthplanfinder. Enrollments after those dates generally take effect February 1.

Do employees on an ICHRA have to wait for Open Enrollment?

No. Gaining an ICHRA is a special-enrollment-period trigger in the individual market (45 CFR 155.420(d)(14)), so a company can start its program any month of the year — employees get their own window to buy plans when the allowance begins.

Could these dates change?

For 2027, the schedule is set as listed — but honestly held: a 2025 federal rule would have shortened Open Enrollment, a federal court vacated that provision in June 2026, and the government's appeal is pending. A future ruling could change later years' windows, which is why every date here carries its verification vintage.

What does a January 1 ICHRA start actually require?

Working backward: employees generally need the written ICHRA notice about 90 days before the plan year — early October for a January 1 start — which means the employer decision realistically lands by late September, with employees then shopping during Open Enrollment like everyone else.
